X Shimmer has an age limit
Shimmer (and even glitter) can be worn at any age. However, the pigment of the glitter or the application may change. Changing the placement can open up the eye and help to brighten the overall eye area. I recommend placing the shimmer on the lid and patting it to blend while bringing it upwards to lift the lid — this can help visually lift skin that may feel like it’s dragging.
Opting for cream or liquid eyeshadows can also help make the appearance of your eye lid smoother, as sometimes packing on powder can look too dry. I love the PÜR creamy eyeshadow tints for any age because they have a built-in primer with eye care benefits. Lancôme and Lise Watier also have a great selection of liquid and cream shadows.

X Brighter is always better
You don’t always need to opt for a brighter (or lighter) lipstick. Neutrals or deeper shades look lovely on anyone, anytime. We often see clients come in with the impression that a bright babydoll pink or coral is the most “natural” option for them, and they’re afraid of choosing a neutral or deeper shade.
However, more often than not, the lighter colouring does not compliment their skin tone. The shade itself can take away from the overall complexion and can make the skin look dull, even though they’re wearing a bright and colourful lip. Opt for a more neutral, monochromatic look instead. Berry, mauve, & nude shades have been taking the spotlight lately and complement a variety of skin tones. Adding a cohesive colouring on the cheeks just completes the look perfectly.
Estée Lauder has an abundance of lipsticks in so many great formulas. The shade “rebellious rose” is the perfect example of a lipstick has enough of a base colour, without feeling too dark. Try it with a similar blush – like the Futurist Blushmaker dewy cheek tint in shade “Across the dancefloor” for the perfect pairing.

X Never use powder
You do not have to be afraid of using powder. You may feel like your skin has become drier and tighter, and have been avoiding powder as you are worried it can make your makeup settles into lines, as you’ve been told many times.
However, you may just need a different product or again, you may need to try a different placement. Instead of opting for a full coverage foundation powder, and applying a thick layer of it with the complimentary sponge it comes with, switch to a translucent setting powder. A light dusting of a translucent powder can set your makeup in place and help you avoid overusing powder.
You can also strictly use powder in oiler areas, like your T-zone, and keep the powder just in this area by applying it with a smaller eyeshadow brush. If you’re still skeptical about using powder, try a mattifying balm. The Nudestix blot and blur is a blurring balm that helps to smooth skin and can be applied on top of makeup, replacing your powder altogether but still offering its benefits.

X Waterproof mascara is best
Put down the waterproof mascara! Lashes get brittle with age, and the removal process after using waterproof mascara may be too aggressive for your lashes. Opt for a smudge-proof mascara, like the Lancôme Curl Goddess, or a tubing mascara instead. Tubing mascaras, like the Clinique Lash Power, are a great alternative to waterproof. The removal process is simple — all you need is warm water and a cotton pad, the mascara will slide right off your lashes.
